Gulberwick Together

Words from the Chairman

The Chairman’s Report to the AGM
  November 2011

Gulberwick Together has now been in existence for five years. The efforts and hard work by the committee and public-spirited members of the community working together in partnership with local groups such as the community hall, community council, local church, toddlers group, youth club, etc. has been beneficial in ensuring community co-ordination and cohesion..

Year five has seen a year of consolidation of events and activities after the initial surge of early 'quick win' successes which were a feature of early years achievements.

This year, the Country Sports Weekend expanded into GulberWeek with a much wider menu of 22 diverse activities. which were very well attended, and rounded off with a barbecue brunch. Support for some events has been less positive in recent months and these events can only take place if sufficient volunteers come forward.

The standard of the lower road especially with he safety of school children  of paramount concern and urgent action is required to improve the current road as a matter of priority. This project has widespread local support but is taking an unacceptable length of time for the local authority to provide positive and effective safety improvements.

Gulberwick Together has taken a direct interest in the potential developments in the area. Significant development has been proposed for Setter Ness and Gulberwick Together undertook a residents survey on behalf of the prospective developer to establish community views on the proposals. These have been forwarded to the relevant agencies and local authorities who now have a clear indication of individual concerns and support for the various developments.

Many of the original Action Plan items have been successfully completed and the GT committee are to be heartily commended for their hard work in achieving a great deal on an entirely voluntary basis. The local community council are taking an active interest in our projects and concerns and supporting our initiatives and recommendations.
