Another great Gulberwick Country Sports and Activities Weekend took place again this year. More events  were added including baby massage, yoga, jazz dancing, fun factory and a tea dance as well as many of the activities from last year, like clay target shooting, trout fishing, yoal rowing, coasteering, trailer trips, walks and mountain biking and finished with a barbecue lunch on Sunday.

The Gulberwick Picnic 2009 was a great success enjoyed by all.

Many Gulberwick families enjoyed a splendidly sociable and friendly afternoon at the fourth Gulberwick on the afternoon of Sunday 30th August.

Conditions in the morning were not promising with wind and rain but this cleared up, the sun came out and the beach was even sheltered from the wind by the afternoon. Much of the sand from the beach has moved to provide an off-shore island at low tide but there was just enough sand at the south end of the beach to provide the essential material for the sand castle competition.

Great imagination was applied to the design of the castles/constructions encouraged by the various category of prize.

As well as impressive castles, the ample supply of stones added a new dimension with brochs, standing stones, pyramid and even a volcano included for the first time. The treasure hunt also expanded the search territory to find a range of materials and items and, after running off energy on the playing field and in the sea, a feast of food with soft drinks and teas was served in the hall.

Gulberwick Together are grateful to everyone who helped to arrange and participate in another successful picnic and were encouraged to see a number of new faces at the community event.

The Gulberwick Community Hall was decorated with spooky and ghostly figures and lights for the children's Halloween Party on Saturday 31st October. A great many children turned up and the frightening fancy dress costumes complemented the ghostly atmosphere. Ghastly Halloween games and music kept the hall in a fever of excitement all afternoon. Hot dogs, juice and many sweet prizes added to the fun.

Grateful thanks to the mums and dads who put so much effort into making the party a great success.

After the party many of the children went guizing to friend's houses.

The fifth of November was a cold and blustery night in Gulberwick, but the bonfire took place in the park below the Hillside junction rather than as previous years on the beach.

A torchlight parade brought back a Gulberwick tradition with several of the older children carrying torches and marching to the bonfire to get it underway. The good sized bonfire burned rapidly in the easterly wind, and the fireworks were as impressive as ever with the children and adults all enjoying the event.
